  1. What do you do for core & balance training?

  2. Core work is a less intense version of the P90X Ab Ripper X. The P90X version is 350 core reps in 17mins. I usually get 250 in 15mins and make sure I work all the core muscles, not just abs.

Balance work is almost all on the round ball. I jump on the ball to knees and rotate to extremes basically balancing on one knee and leaning all the way forward and back while keep the ball under me. Then I roll the ball and jump on it in an attempt to stop it from rolling and keep myself up top. I also work on transitions from knees to combat base (one knee up kneeling) without using my hands. Finally, I practice standing up.

Strength sessions include some balance work as well. I do squats on the bosu with at 40lbs or so. Also do bicep curls to presses with squat on the bosu. Other bosu work includes kneeling to stand up and back down with 40lbs or so. My trainer has me do bicep curls, presses, and lat raises while kneeling on the round ball. He also attacks me we padded sticks while balancing on the round ball. Alternating strikes to head, body, and thighs. I do my best to defend with forearms while maintaining posture on the ball.

  3. Using the balance ball for stability training is excellent! Very difficult at first, but worth the effort and consistence!

    Sounds like you're doing well.

Are you happy with your results so far?

  4. Very pleased. Not only is my balance on the ball improved dramatically, it has translated into my jiu-jitsu game. I feel far far more confident on top than before. I'm not giving up sweeps that I used to. My top float passing game is stronger. And my knee on belly is feeling really really good. To the point where I'm having great success lately scoring knee on belly points on Purples and Browns and often transitioning to mount. Just need to work on finishes from knee on belly and maintaining mount position. :) All in due time.
