MRI Results = Sucks to be You!

MRI results:
  1. Reversal of the usual cervical lordosis.
  2. Moderately advanced C5-C6, C6-C7 level degenerative disc disease/hypertrophic spondylosis with related central canal and foraminal stenosis, at the C5-C6 level somewhat asymmetric to the right. Findings at the C6-C7 level include an eccentric left posterior central or paracentral disc herniation though with evidence of asymmetrically pronounced right-sided foraminal stenosis at the same level.
  3. Comparatively mild degenerative changes referable to the suprajacent C4-C5 level with small midline focal posterior central C4-C5 disc protrusion.
  4. More cephalad, evidence of asymmetrically prominent left-sided C2-C3 and right-sided C3-C4 foraminal narrowing which would appear likely at least in part developmental.

Might have well said, “Sucks to be you!”

Likely to see a specialist to determine next steps.

BTW, if anyone reading this is a doctor, feel free to translate. Might be a while before I can see a specialist.

  1. Sorry to hear this man I can fully relate.

Hurt my right knee from offroad motorbike accident 5months ago, been training through it ever since, knee never really recovered. Went for MRI 2 weeks ago and says I have Grade 2 cartilage damage, Wilson legion and bakers cyst.

Have an appointment with Ortho on 07/02.

Then...Thursday I dislocated my right shoulder..it's bad this time. This same shoulder I dislocated couple years back and they had to operate to fix bankart. Have an appointment for MRI this coming Monday and planning taking both issues to the Ortho on 07/02.

This really sucks to start new year like this, had such big plans for training and competing ect. I might be done for rest of the year and maybe even done for ever.

(I am 29 and would still like to play with my future kids one day without popping painkiller every second)

  2. Werner, your situation sounds way worse than mine! Man that's rough. You really have to wait until July for a appointment? Take care and stay healthy!

  3. sorry to hear that and I find myself in a similar situation (spondilosys C5 and C7)and I am just a blue belt at 44.
My objective is to be able to practice BJJ for the longest I can, as I love it.
I am curious how did you manage to cure or adapt you BJJ training to this problem.
I will go in a set of specialit visits soon, as I have just been diagnosed with it.

    take care

  4. Hey max. I live with my degenerative disc disease and have embraced it. My left arm is atrophe and I can't do more than 10 push ups. Had to adjust my game to not use much if any strength from my left side. I manage the pain and numbness symptoms by listening to my body. I only train 2-3x per week and take time off. And when I train I take the "easy" classes. Sometimes I just drill and technique - no sparring. In other words, I take it easy. I have to. I can't train the way I used to train and expect to make black belt. So I just do what I can. Good luck and hope your next heals well enough to let you continue to train; even if it means training lightly.
